Brake Caliper Pistons

I just removed my calipers and noticed one caliper has the pistons
installed in  reverse.  The cups are pointed inward instead of outward
to the brake pads.  Any ideas on how this would affect braking?  I am
going to reinstall cup side toward the brake pads.  Just curious.  My
brakes weren't working that well, didn't know if this could be the
culprit.
