Charles:
The EGR does a couple of other things besides simply reducing
emissions;
1. At cruise, the EGR is open so that you get a dilution of the
incoming
air fuel charge. This has the effect of increasing your cruise MPG
slightly because of reduced pumping losses and a reduction in the
fresh air/fuel charge.
2. Since your carbs are calibrated for the EGR, your mixture will go
lean at cruise without it. May not be enough to notice though. So
without a recalibration of your carbs, your mixture will be wrong.
Just some thoughts. I would therefore recommend replacing the pipe
soon.

Subject: EGR pipe
Doing a little cleaning and re-assembly today and found the EGR pipe from
the valve to the manifold is cracked open at the bend for approximately an
inch. This is on a 75 TR6 and is Moss part number 379-425 for reference.
Moss list this pipe as NA. Does anyone know of a source or a substitute for
this pipe. It appears to be aluminum with the brass fittings and olives.
Would plugging the holes cause any major (or minor) problems. Thanks for
any help.
