Every year in spring I spend about 45 minutes wrestling with the old
fashioned canister type oil filter on my 73 TR6. I keep threatening to give
in and by a spin-on adapter but never manage to do it. Since I only drive
the car a few thousand miles a year and its garaged from Oct-April, I only
change the oil once a year.

Anyway, as I said, I usually fight with the thing for about 45 minutes, most
of the time spent trying to get that damn rubber seal out of the groove in
the engine block. Well, this year the car learned a new trick. This year,
I took out the bolt that holds the bell housing for the canister to the
block and the bell housing itself refuses to part from the engine block.
Not sure how that can possibly happen but...there it is. I tried twisting
it. I tried pulling on it. I tried whacking it a few times with a small
hammer. Nothing will budge it from the block.

Any ideas on how I might convince this thing that it really would be a good
idea if it would part from the block so I might change the filter inside?

Thanks
