Hugh:

It is not uncommon for older cars to have the pully slip on the rubber harmonic 
dampener and, as a result, cause the timing mark to move. If you have verified 
this (probably while dialing in your new cam) you may want to buy a new one. 
Otherwise, strike a new mark on the pulley to redesignate where TDC is located. 
I don't recommend trying to move the pointer; that wouldn't make much sense 
IMHO.
