 I though about the method you suggest, but was convinced otherwise by the
readers. What I did was after my frame was reworked, was install the body back
on the frame, check all gaps with old parts and shim the body and adjust the
panel fit. Once I was convinced all was well, I removed the body from the
frame (with braces in the doors) and put it on saw horses and removed and
installed  the pans only. If your sills are totally shot, this may not work as
well for you. Bracing of the sills may be required.
   I left the inner sills in tact, to keep the body rigid. Once pans were
installed, then put the body back on the frame and checked gaps again. Then
the fun began, removed and replaced  one section at a time, beginning with the
inner 1/4's, inner and outer sills, etc.
  This worked very well for me, note this was my first attempt at this kind of
thing, but I'm pleased with the results. First time I picked up a Mig Welder
or any welder for that matter was last January, now welding is quite fun.
Should have learned it in High School. I have no formal training in this sort
of thing.

  As you are doing this, remember you ARE BUILDING THE CAR AROUND THE DOORS!!!
Door gap is very important.  I used tons of #8 (I think) self tapping screws
to hold things in place till I was satisfied with the fit of parts. If you're
off it's very easy to relocate the panels. Also think about how moving one
panel will change it's relation to the others it come in contact with. It's
amazing how you can pull and push a fender to fit flush.

I've gotten quite skillful in deleting e-mails on subjects that don't interest
me, but I'm always appreciative of the multiple responses I get on my

BTW, I took my Grand Cherokee in for service yesterday, driving my TR250 while
it's in the shop.  The Jeep should be done tomorrow.  Of course, today North
Carolina gets several inches of snow and sleet.  The only day I could really
put my SUV to work in Greensboro and I'm forced to drive the Triumph!
Fortunately they don't have enough salt in town to hurt the car.  My car ran
fine in the snow and I got to play a little when there wasn't traffic around
me.  Don't think I'll be able to go out tomorrow, though, since it's still
coming down.  For those up North who fear the rust monster, I wasn't risking
much by driving today.  Sunday I'll get a new frame to start prepping and
moving mechanicals over to it.  The goal is to get a perfect rolling chassis,
use the current imperfect body (filled rust on top of rear fenders, bad sills
and rockers) until an abandoned TR4, 4A, or 250 project with a solid body is
discovered.  My tentative plan is to follow the example in "How to Resto!
re . . ." by taking new floors, sills, and rockers, and marrying them up to
the front and rear halves of a solid body shell(s).  Anyone ever tried this
type of restoration?  I really like to drive the car, so my plan is to have
the chassis done mid-spring, drive this summer, and search for the body for
next winter's project during the summer.

Answer:  Hasn't this always been the case with a list? Yes I have felt
the same way! But I'm not complaining...Excuse me, I do have one
request...Open the server so that diagrams and photos may be

Answer:  I, "especially", like the useless information comment! I myself
am certain that more valuable info has been passed through this list,
"BY MEMBERS", in the last 10 days, than has been discussed in the past
60. I don't think that anyone who "responded" to my post has put forth a
useless effort! How about you guys?

As a matter of fact they should all be commended for actually liking
cars!

I could start the "Jim Show", I won't do it, I know it's rude to some!!!
I don't understand this mentality, but I will respect it, and keep my
mouth shut
