John,

I found after cutting mine of with a dremmel tool that there is a
"spring loaded" pin that holds the knob on. My pin was seriously not
working.  I had to cut just about the whole knob off it was verrry
tight.  I also found that the new know was also so tight that pinning it
was not needed.

My guess is that the dremmel tool will be needed
