To get into reverse the bottom of the gear stick has to clear a small
ledge that in theory required the gear stick to be lifted slightly even
though many have worn and just slide in. At the bottom of the gear stick
there is a small anti-rattle device that (via a spring) keeps the gear
stick under tension so it is less prone to rattle. If that small piece
of metal comes out of its hole in the gear stick I can imagine it
getting into the reverse gate and stopping you from getting into the
slot.

Try physically lifting the gear stick as you move into reverse and see
if it behaves differently. I would pull the gear stick out and see what
is going on.

I need some advice ... the TR6's transmission won't go into reverse. It
will not move into the right-side position (before pulling aft). It
feels like something is in the way / blocking it.
