I keep seeing advertisements for heat shields. I am curious if folks agree
that the use of these shields are good or bad. Just visual aids or actually
perform the task as
claimed. Personally I would think the shield would direct the heat back
into the engine compartment vs allowing the heat to dissipate. And living
in a southern climate (florida) the last thing I need is a hotter engine
compartment!
Here is a claim on one of the websites about a heat shield:

Keeps the exterior of the hood cool and will not reflect engine heat back
down toward your intake.
Made of 1/4 inch nitrile vinyl closed cell foam rubber, these hood liners
will not absorb water or oil. They are light, about 11 ounces on average,
are fire retardant and insulate against sound and heat.

Anyone have any thoughts it these things work as claimed?

Thanks!
John
