Aha!  The "3" suffix also explains the special speedometer gears and rear axle
ratios for the Bermuda cars!   For what it is worth, Hillman and Singer
convertibles (often with "surrey tops") were used extensively in Bermuda as
taxis in the late fifties and early sixties.  

Of course a higher axle ratio kind of negated the improvement in gas mileage
that was gained by using a smaller bore.
