Y'all are missing the point.

The only way one can get a class created these days is to demonstrate
demand UP FRONT; the National Staff is no longer interested in creating
classes on spec.

If you want the "Pink Subaru Justy" class, you need to come up with a bunch
of people who claim that they'll run it if it is offered BEFORE anybody
will even consider offering the class at events.

A bunch of people, last year, indicated that they wanted to run in SM2,
even going so far to get a class running at a Tour. Accordingly, the Powers
That Be said "OK, there's interest, we'll offer it in 2002"

And... Nothing.

Nobody (yet) has turned up.

According to the procedure that has been followed in the past, this makes
it unlikely that SM2 will be offered at Nationals this year, which is the
next step along the progession ladder, unless that trend is immediately
reversed.

Failing to come up with enough people to justify a Nationals Supp class
means there is a good possibility that it would not even be offered in 2003
- where's the justification for it?

Now I _suspect_ that the National Staff wouldn't just turf it after only
one season (ref: STR, which got 2 seasons) but _for sure_ 2 failing seasons
mean death - and it takes 2 back-to-back "success" seasons to go from
Supplimental to the full deal, so a "failure" season pushes back the
schedule by a year.

If the demand for SM2 **really is** out there, then those people who asked
for SM2 to be created need to start generating turnouts at National-level
events most ricky tick.

I kinda get the feeling that the people who were most interested in SM2
last year were C4 Corvette people fleeing SS and BSP in advance of the Z06.
Now that the C4 is AS and BSP, the C5 SS and ASP, there's a whole lot less
attraction for SM2 for these guys, and demand really HAS dropped.

Which is fine. If a class cannot sustain itself, then it should not be
offered.
