Grassroots did a comparison some year or so ago using several diffent sets of
pads on a miata, i think it was.

they should be able to help you locate the back issue. www.grmotorsports.com

Has anyone ever measured the stopping power of different brake pads?

For the purposes of this discussion, the brake pads are for a dedicated
autocross car so brake fade, suitability for street use, brake dust, rotor
abuse, etc aren't relevant.

I've seen subjective opinions about brand X stopping better than brand y,
but I've never seen numbers. Anyone got 'em?

Seems to me that the tire contact area (and grip), and the surface area of
the caliper pistons on the brake pads are MUCH more relevant factors to
determining how quickly a given car stops and that brake pads differences
are maybe for fine tuning the margins.
