Mostly I think the proposals overly complex and more solution than the
problem warrants.

IMHO, the fix is simply to scale back the 30 minutes to 10 minutes and
otherwise leave it be.

But...

I LIKE that one! It would tend to equalize the 2-driver effect to some
degree while still permitting the fun of sharing a car.

I think it probably the most clever and most do-able of the entire set Matt
proposed. And it stands alone, it does not need the other parts of his
proposal to be used.

Imagining permutations: What if someone gains a co-driver the second day,
who goes first? Assuming neither was in a 2-driver car on day one, it does
not matter. What if someone gains a  DIFFERENT co-driver the second day, who
goes first? The driver who was in the specific car the first day switches as
described (even if both were second drivers in 2-driver cars the first day)
and the other takes the slot that's left. .
