I wrote a little bit for the original Speedvision.com. One thing that was
really useful was that, months later, I could go back and find my old
stories in their archives. When people asked about the 6-part historical
piece I did on the SCCA Runoffs I could send a link. I could also research
any number of other race topics. Or just get news that I wanted as a fan.

All that went away when Speedvision was sold. Even that valuable archive
went into the bit bucket. As one friend said, when the name changed to Speed
Channel, "They kept their speed but lost their vision."

I can tell you that some very good editors for whom I wrote were without
jobs or a place to give work to people like me or my friend Ed, below, and
thus without a place to send racing news to the world. Instead of having an
on-site guy at the track telling you what happened in reports you could only
get on that website, now you get canned stories and news releases that you
can also read on any number of other sites. In 2001 Speedvision.com sent me
to the Kansas Speedway for all three of its inaugural-season weekends and I
provided stories on the ARCA, Winston West, IRL, Indy Lights, Craftsman
Truck, Busch and Winston Cup races there. In 2002 I sat at home and watched
them all on TV, as did other former Speedvision.com scribes. I still have a
story on one of the "Old Yeller" race cars in my computer that was supposed
to go into the Vintage section of Speedvision.com, but never made it because
of the sale.

Don't get me wrong. I still love the Speed Channel. I've had it on my cable
for about a year now (it arrived just about the time of the sale) and I am
there a lot. But the website is ho-hum. Its most useful purpose is to let
viewers know what is coming on the TV channel, not being a prime source of
motorsport news.

So check out the link below. If having that motorsports news source was as
useful and important to you as it was to me, this reincarnation may be just
what you were waiting for. But first, they need to know it is wanted by
sufficient numbers to do it.

This is where you come in. Click the link at the end of Ed's note.
