For some reason this was sent to me rather than autox@autox.team.net.

Normally I just lurk, but here goes:
Yes, I will admit that having two drivers to keep the tires warm is an
advantage. A small one. The big advantage is that the two drivers can
collaborate on track conditions, car reactions, and "the Line". Having
said that, I should point out that in the middle of summer, two drivers
will severely overheat tires to the point that they get "slimey" out on
the course. They also overheat the engine. The response to this is to
spray water on the tires and the radiator between runs to keep them
cooled off.

If you would eliminate blankets, you should also eliminate sprayers,
and by the way, some of the older cars have radiators in the nose and
don't have cooling problems, so you need to eliminate them, too. And
ice on the intercoolers. And umbrellas to keep the sun out of the
interior, and hats for the drivers (big advantage for us bald guys).
While you're at it, get rid of the "torso belts" and lace-on steering
wheel covers and, oh yes, driving gloves. May as well give a lobotomy
to the more experienced drivers, so they won't come up with anything
ELSE that may give them an edge.

I say, if you can't run with the big dogs, STAY ON THE PORCH. The last
freaking thing we need is another goddam rule to make racing into a
SOCIALIST society. If two drivers is such an advantage, then get
yourself another driver and join the club. This is RACING, and someone
WINS and someone LOSES.
