This is part of the crime bill. Major car parts , i.e. body panels,
engine blocks, transmission casings etc. would all have the VIN lasered
into it so that it would be impossible to remove. Some congressman
don't think that it would make a difference to the chop shops and auto
theft problem. I think they are already bought off by someone, probably
the Auto companies.
It would probably only affect whole new cars and not legitimate
spare parts.
