I found the perfect solution to this this past weekend. In fact, some of
you may even have one of these lying about your house: a 9-year old boy! I
gave my son Ryan the electric ratchet and said "Take all of those bolts
out!" He jumped right in, unscrewed 'em, and had a ball! He not only fit
in the foot wells, but could turn around whilst down there! No well
equipped British car garage should be without one!

The occasion for all of this was the resurrection of the engine hoist in my
garage. A friend had assisted me in removing it from my previous garage
last winter, and I convinced said friend to shorten up the post a couple of
inches and then re-weld the base plate back on. Getting it securely
hoisted into place and bolted down led into the swap of the leaky, noisy,
transmission in the white TR4 with the recently (in miles, not time)
rebuilt one in the black parts car.

So now I have the engine & trans out of the white TR4 on the garage floor,
the engine compartment cleaned up, and the engine & trans from the parts
car hanging from the hoist. Did I mention that the engine in the parts car
had been totally rebuilt (head done, crank ground, new pistons & liners,
new bearings) by the PO and then never run?? After taking a peak under the
valve cover and up inside the pan and seeing everything still adequately
covered with assembly lube and rust free after, what would it be now, 12
years since the rebuild??, I just may decide to use this motor instead of
the slightly tired later TR4 or 4A motor that was in the white car. That'd
be one way of taking care of that leaky front main seal! ;^)

In the mean time, I have sent off the SU H6's to Apple Hydraulics to get
the sloppy throttle shafts re-bushed. ($45 ea. plus $5 return shipping -
Thanks to Mike Gendiment for the recent note on Apple!) Should have them
back by late this week or early next. I'm looking forward to a pretty
smoothly running new motor pretty soon now!

Oh, by the way, did anyone else notice the TR4 frame in the "Car Parts For
Sale" section of the TRF Summer Newsletter? "With steering and front
axles. Very good condition. $2,000.00 O.B.O." Heck, I've got an extra
one of those, rust free, that's been sandblasted and painted, and I'll even
throw in the rest of the car (in pieces!) Anyone want to start the bidding
at, say, $2,500.00?? :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^)
