I all SOLers. I am an avid listener of this list, but have had not real reason
to submit before this.

My 78 MGB has a torn gaitor and bad bushings. In reading both Bently
and Haynes manuals I do not see information in removing either. Haynes
makes some mention of removing the gaitor, but it is somewhat unclear.

To remove the gaitor I need to loosen the lock nut and then ?. I would
think I need to unscrew the tie rod from the bakk joint and then rotate the
wheel to loosen the tie bar. If I need to turn the wheel, what is the best
way to support the chassis? Will a floor jack do the trick, or is this too
much risk (about the car falling?)

Second, the bushings. It appears that all that needs to be done is to
release the nuts holding the bushings, left and right and then remove the
arm that holds the bushing. Next replace the bushing and reattach the
arm. question, will the spring make this job impossible? If so, what is the
best way to secure the plate the spring is attached to?

Thank you for your help. I

Dan Hobbs
