Randell Jesup asks: "which years were Series I, II and III XJ6's"

This is from memory (UK dates) - someone else may have a reference book. It
doesn't really matter, because you can tell which they are easily by looking
at them.

Mark Is were introduced in about 1968 (big grille, low bumper, 2.8 and 4.2,
short wheelbase. LWB XJ6L option introduced later).

Mark IIs ran about 1975 through 1980 (small grille, ugly square chrome
grille under higher front bumper, all LWB 4-doors and SWB coupe's). 4.2,
5.3, possibly 3.4 as well. SUs in UK (ZS on V12).

Mark IIIs about 1980 to XJ40 launch in about 1987. V12 continued until
about a year ago*. These have much cleaner front end, with small grille,
grilleless aperture under front bumper, raised rear roof line, cleaner rear
end, flush door handles, optional pepperpot wheels, good paint, 4.2, 3.4,
5.3 fuel injection, electronics.

*Urban myth: XJ40 engineered with narrow engine compartment to preclude use
of Rover V8 which BL accountants trying to foist onto Browns Lane. Nice
engine in its way, but, as HM Bateman might have thundered, at Jaguar
"_Certainly not !!!!_".

Paul.
