What you have is a TR8 engine, built to meet California emissions for 1980,
and all US emissions (California, as well as Federal 49-State) for 1981.
This engine code (14E/15E) was also in all Canadian TR8's for 1981-82.

As for "all California models were fuel-injected", well, sort of! You need
to realise that Triumph had planned to launch the TR8 for the 1978 Model
Year, and there were ONLY carburettor engines planned for that launch. So,
the 12E and 13E engines were built to meet the 1978 California spec, and
COULD have been sold in California. The 1978 spec for 49-State cars was met
with the 10E and 11E engine codes. So in fact, there truly are TR8's which
can meet California emissions with Stromberg carbs! Of course they meet 1978
limits, not 1980 or 81 limits...

Now before we get a great debate of what engine code other TR8 folks have,
consider that by 1980, the so-called "California spec" emission limit was
required for 49-State cars. So if you have a Federal 1980 TR8, you will
likely have what current TR publications call the "California" spec engine!
Puzzled yet????? All the publications seem to say the same thing, but they
are not quite correct/clear. I've been digging on this topic for a long
time, and I hope to explain more of my findings in the next TR8 Car Club
newsletter.

According to that web page:

10E = Federal 5-speed
11E = Federal automatic
12E = California 5-speed
13E = California automatic
  (the above agrees with TRF's data)
14E = fuel-injected 5-speed
15E = fuel-injected automatic

This doesn't seem to make sense... since all California models were
fuel-injected. Unless the first two are federal carb-ed cars, and the
last two are for federal fuel-injected cars, then that would mean both
of my engines are '81 models?

Thanks for the link... even more data than Rimmer Bros' book!
