The shift boot mounts to the tunnel (floor section) itself. Not the console.

Subject: shifter boot question
Hi everyone,
I have a quick question. Does the shifter boot attach to the center console
plate or to the metal that is part of the floor? I think my center console
may have been jacked by a previous owner so I can't tell if it should fit
there. I tried to fit it to the metal underneath but the hole was too small
for the rubber boot. I think I might end up modifying that part of the
center console anyway because it looks like crap right now. Definatly not
original.
