I have an article on babbit bearings somewhere that I will try to find. As
I recall there is no problem opening them up to check them. Did you search
the net to see if there was anything there? If you can find a factory shop
manual for a '41 Buick, babbit bearings is covered in there. The rods in
the engine I rebuilt had been converted to shells, so I didn't pay that
much attention to the babbit stuff.
