Crawled under the '67 1600 to see how the seat rails attach to the body.
Can you say SCARY! I know the car is a death trap, but still - geez.
basically my seat rails are attached to the body with 4 rusty screws through
the floor pan (1 fore, 1 aft per rail). 3 of 4 screws have bolts. 2 nuts
up to the floor pan, one nut about 1/2 way up the threads - not at the floor
pan, not off the screw. Everything is pretty rusty, I am sure things will
snap when I go at them. Oh, there was one washer in use, slightly larger
than it's nut. This was the passenger side, I didn't even bother looking at
the drivers side.
I want to add something to reinforce the holding & disperse the strain in
case of an accident. I was thinking a flat bar (1 front & 1 rear) under the
floor pan that 2 rear bolts (& 2 front bolts) would go through. Then I
figure that will trap water & cause rust. Washers don't seem effective
enough. Maybe some rubber strapping?
What have people used to hold the seats down besides body weight & the lap
belts?
