"Tin hat" (Late) and "umberella" (Early). The early i600 heads had a raised
area around each valve stem that needs to be machined flate to allow "tin
Hat" seals. The early seal is an "O" ring in the top of the keeper.

Subject: valve seals

Hey Group
I understand that nissan used 2 different valve seals on the 1600 starting
with engine #45000(?) THe later type is a "tin hat". the earlier type is no
longer available from nissan. I recently had the stroker head rebuilt and it
smokes pretty good even for a new engine. Going to go back to thte machinist
and talk about valve seals. Anyone have any ideas on this? THe machinist has
said that the valve guides were "different" on this head from others,as
well,
but I have no idea what seals he used. This was a presmog head.
THANKS
Mike Koken
