I wouldn't use rubber as there is a lot of heat there. I bought 1/2" cooper
tubing. I left it straight and used heater hose to make the bends. Simple
and efficient.

I dumped that valve long ago. Leave your heater cracked open a bit to allow
water to circulate through the intake.
