To those who have asked about materials and construction of the ball joints:
Basically the ball joints are constructed of delrin and enclosed but
greasable-this is usually a grease fitting. The housing is steel. I was told
the nut is included, I'm assuming the castle nut, but no other fasteners.
The testing data on these ball joints has already been done so that Rareparts
does not have to redo all that because these materials and design have been
used in other applications. The SAE manuals describe testing processes for ball
joints but the data is not available to us. Rareparts does do an "impact test"
to ensure that the parts meet their standards, but again all other specs
(hardness etc) are already known because of the materials chosen and the
manufacturing process. Some of this data is proprietary. But they welcome us to
conduct any and all tests necessary. The rep at Rareparts said that all of
those tests are necessary only if you are "reinventing the wheel" that is using
a completely new design or materials-- Their concern is the physical
dimensions, ie "fit" of the part for the Datsun which they must be certain of.
Since it was mentioned that Mercedes uses this type design and materials, for
those interested, a call to a local Mercedes parts counter might give further
info on this material.

I may have missed this, but what was the resolution on the delrin versus steel
issue? In other words, which portions of the assembly are made of which
material? Also, are fasteners included?
