I live in the SF Bay Area and have been somewhat involved in both efforts.
The one you mention for Oct. 1, 2006 was an initial effort by another party
who took the idea and tried to run with it. Despite advice that attempting
to hold the event this year without extensive advance planning was not a
good idea, he moved ahead. I have recently heard that this person has
realized the enormity of the task and has withdrawn his plan.
The event planned for June 2007 is being managed in a proper way by
experienced people with the right contacts. If all goes well, this should
be a very interesting and entertaining event and hopefully, become a regular
part of the vintage racing schedule on the West Coast. Time will tell.
