I=92m afraid of scuffing too but today I got the manufacturer on the =
phone
twice (different people) and they told me, stay with set clearance.

I asked them why their pistons don=92t expand that much. Answer: Less
expanding aluminum, special shaped for well fitting. They are more oval.

They are made from Mahle. They do F1 pistons also and DTM cars pistons. =
I
hope they should know.

Good morning,

I'm curious who are you getting pistons from? =20

I get mine from JE (I use the regular JE import car piston for the =
spit,
not the fancy JE Pros) They call a clearance something like this for =
street
use, and say you can run up to 4 or .0045 for a race application. I =
always
hone to .0055 to .006 clearance and have never had a piston problem. =
You do
get some scuffing with that much clearance, but it has never been a =
problem.
Running them too tight can be a problem. =20

I have had several engine problems over the years but never related to =
the
pistons. (mostly valve issues due to me insisting on designing my own =
cam
profiles and valve train in hopes of engineering myself to the back of =
the
pack ;>)

I have ordered new forged pistons and the manufacturer insists on 0.0024
piston to wall clearance.
