Maybe this might be offtopic though I want to tell about yield strength of
steel.
When parts are bended several times back and forth more and more of the
steel has plasticized and starts to crack.

Annealing don't help if the steel shows cracking's. Annealing does help to
relive the imprinted tension of a bending but this bending might be once or
maximum twice over the plasticize border. You have to bring the temperature
beyond 4300C for a certain while and cool it not too fast.

I hope you did understand this because my English is very limited offside
from car themes.

As one of those classic projects that just keeps getting deeper, I stripped
the engine compartment of my TR 3. Picture the tabs used to bend around the
wiring harnesses that have been bent back and forth for 50 years. If I heat
them till red and let them cool slowly, will the atoms reknit eliminating
stresses from all the bending or will I end up with burnt toast?

Happy New Years - got pistons etc for Christmas - Santa been berry good to
me...
