Don,
Something else is screwed up. Either in the OD relay or the wiring.

I'm not sure how to explain it but will try. There are an OD relay & the
throttle switch involved.

The relay has four terminals on it. They are marked W1, W2, C1, C2.
There are two terminals on the throttle switch, probably not marked.

Relay term. W2 should have 1 black ground wire.

Term. W1 should have 2 wht/viol wires. One of the wires goes to one side
of the throttle switch. The other wire goes to the dashboard switch.

Term. C1 should have 1 wht wire going to to A3 on the fuse block (hot 12
V with ign. sw. on).

Term. C2 should have 2 wht/grn wires on it. One of the wires should go
to the other side of the throttle switch. The other wire goes to the
third & fourth gear switch on the transmission & then on to the OD solenoid.

I hope I don't have the wire colors wrong for your car.

If things are wired as described, the problem has to be that the OD
relay is not operating or it's contact is not making. This problem
allows the dash switch to operate the solenoid through the throttle
switch when the switch is closed. (Throttle closed) Since the relay
circuit is not operating somehow, the solenoid deenergizes when the
throttle is opened.

1- Testing - Assuming the ignition switch is turned on & the gear
selector is in fourth.

2- With a volt meter connected from W1 to W2 on the OD relay, 12 volts
should show when the dash switch is turned on & the relay should operate
as should the solenoid.

3- With the same as #2, & the throttle switch open (depressed), a
voltmeter connected from C2 of the relay to ground should show 12 volts.
If either of these tests fails, there is something wrong with the OD
relay or the wiring.

4- As in #1, Operating the dash switch should operate the solenoid. When
the dash switch is turned off the solenoid should remain energized until
the throttle is opened or the gear selector is moved from 3-4 position.

Note: the W1 &W2 terminals could be interchanged as long as the
associated wiring corresponds. The same for the C1 & C2 terminals.

I hope I haven't made a big mess for you. If I have it wrong someone
please make corrections.

Dave Russell
