Scott,

Sounds like your making great progress. I install the tranny (alone)
this way. Car is on ramps in front, jackstands in back.
Engine has a small floor jack with a block of wood under the sump. I
use a tranny jack (rentable by the day at most rental
places). Place cardboard or a some protection in the cockpit. Two rear
mounts on OD removed. Place the tranny in the cockpit
bellhousing facing drivers door (North American LHD:-) and the tail near
the tunnel opening. I leave the parking brake connected but some say
remove it. Place the tranny jack under the car lifted up through the
bottom. Walk the rear of the tranny into the tunnel and walk the front
towards the flywheel placing the tranny on the tranny jack. (Careful not
to disturb the clutch / pressure plate with the input shaft).
Chain the tranny to the tranny jack. Use the tranny jack to rotate the
entire transmission to allow clearace of the bell housing to firewall.
adjust height of engine (floor jack) and attitude of transmission
(tranny jack rotational / angle adjustments) so the shaft appears to align.
At this point I use a few 5 inch bolts in a few of the bellhousing holes
to help align. (Be sure OD wiring is not tangled around flywheel
heheheheh).
Gently move the transmission forward (roll tranny jack forward) to clear
the firewall then rotate again using tranny jack adjustments once clear
of the firewall. Fine tune alignment using the 4 adjustmants available
(tranny jack rotate/angle/height and engine floorjack height) and it should
mate right up with out forcing anything. You may need to drop it in
gear and rotate the tranny shaft slightly using the output shaft to
achieve
mesh of the shaft to clutch teeth. Add bolts and nuts. Follow by
flushing your liver liberally with Guinness.

Hope this makes sense. The trick is to get the rear of the tranny far
enough in the tunnel to allow clearance of the input shaft to the
pressure plate thats why I take off the rear mounting brackets but leave
on the rear bottom buffer dealie.

Cheers. Let us know how it goes.

Tracy
