When I had my E-Type engine rebuilt several years ago, my mechanic, without
asking me, cut off the "helmet head" attachments and added the open ones. 
He said he would "not" use the others because they never made good contact.
Actually, i never had any problem with them.  I drilled a hole in the top
and screwed them to the battery post.

But now I have the open top ones on the E and BJ8.
