I agree ranking 100 coolest cars may be biased. However, the Citroen ID (for
idea) then DS (for deesse - Goddess in French) are ALWAYS ranked in top 10 of
any rankings outside of USA (e.g., "Classic & Sportscar" Magazine in 96 I
believe).
In the US Citroen is either unknown or wrongly spelled, that is "Citron" which
reminds of "lemon": a bad association for a car. Citroen/Peugeot is ranked in
the top 10 automotive producers in the world, I believe exactly 7th. This is
good knowing that they do not sell a single car in the largest automotive
market (USA). Why? Do not ask me.
The Renault 5 Turbo would be in a the same basket. If you like historical Rally
cars (one of the reasons I like my A-Healey), you could not have missed this
car in the 80s. (Renault 5th world auto manufacturer but 0 sale in US).
I forgot! Citroen is the last World Rally Champion 2003, and so many years
before actually I think 2002 too! And soon to be 2004 again. They finished 1
and 2 last week in the British Rally. www.wrc.com for interest.
One of the best kept secret in the US is to buy a Citroen. Because of their 0
or negative reputation they are cheaper than anywhere else in the world.
However, they require a better than average mechanical knowledge and there is
nothing like MOSS to get parts for them! (too bad). The more knowledge you gain
on these cars the greater your fascination. If you really like cars I can
warranty this!
To illustrate my point. Bugatti is almost never ranked. People do not know them
or never had the opportunity to drive one. Yet they may be ranked 1, 2, and 3,
by experts who by definition know them well - but it would not be meaningful to
the mass population so they don't!
