Hi, Bob,
Thanks for your response. I think you have it correct. After much
measuring, it appears both side calipers are identical, and have clearances for
the thin rotors. I measured the clearances from the rotor to the machined
surfaces on the caliper with calipers and steel scale as follows. Rt. side (the
one that's OK) is 0.090 on the O'B side, and 0.100 on the inboard side, Lt side
was 0.050 on the O'B side, and 0.100 on the I'B side, a 0.40 difference. The
difference in rotor thickness was 0.072, a more accurate measurement. My car
serial (40XXX), body No., is a late car according to BMIHT, and all nos. match.
Be that as it may, I'd like to fix it! How can I be sure to get the thin
rotors to match the calipers? Is this the proper fix for my car, a pretty
driver, not concourse? As a last resort, I've located a machine shop that can
take the 0.072 off THE OUTSIDE of the rotor (GULP!). Tonight I'll get the
pistons out and make sure there's nothing else lurking here. Thanks,
DON BJ8 Pandora
