I thank you for this, but it's my guess, confirmed by another, that .wab
files are Win'98 era and not to be found in XP. How to incorporate .wab
into XP is the problem. Presumably by import/export in Outlook, but I'm
damned if I can find my way through it!

Ok here goes.

Go to the My Computer icon on your desk top and right click on it.
Left click on Explore
Click the plus sign on Local disk (C:)
Go down to Program files and click on the plus sign
Go down to Outlook express and click on it.
You will see a file with the extension.WAB
Replace this file with the one that you have saved on your desk top and
you 
should be in business.
