For temperatures above 41 degrees F.
For the 100 the recommended engine oil was 30 weight (They didn't have much
in the way of multigrade oils back then) this continued through the 100/6.
The first of the 3000s were meant to use 10W 30 or 20W 30 (The first of the
viscosity modified oils were coming onto the market)
The 3000 MkIII handbook recommends 20W 40 or 20W 50.
If the cars were made today I would think that 20W 50 synthetic would be the
recommendation.
I use Valvoline 20W 50 Synthetic Racing Oil which, this summer after all the
oil drained out of a split pan, managed to provide sufficient lubrication to
have the engine survive 7 miles at race speeds with very little damage to
the bearings.

It is my understanding that 20-60 oil was originally recommended for
both engine and trans. I am using castrol 20-50 but I believe 20-60 is
available for aircraft engines.
