The oil gauge line comes in one length ,the loop is there to take up the
extra length of the copper line , otherwise SMITHS would have to make gauges
with
different lengths of copper tube to fit many different model cars ....

The flex. oil line that fits onto an adaptor that fits into the engine
block , if you remove this adaptor and look inside you will see a VERY
SMALL hole this hole is to remove the pulsation of the oil caused by the oil
pump
...
If your oil line has a small bore nylon tube it is always very long (
don't shorten it ), if you shorten it the needle will oscillate ... Norman
