Ron,
Basic rule of thumb here is to have the edge of the aluminum follow the
profile of the rear fender exactly parallel but just in far enough that the
screw heads for the fender flange are covered by the piping. The piping
should sit just in from the surface of the outer panels when the door is
closed. Through necessity I've seen the edge of aluminum vary from 5/16" to
almost 3/8" in from the outer edge.
The piping will carry on up and around the ear of the finisher by removing
the inner piping core so the vinyl can lie flat there. The piping inner edge
is carefully contact cemented to the back side of the aluminum shut
finisher.
