Back in the early to mid 70's, when I first got my BN6, my brother and I
would make speed runs from IL to our summer place in Green Lake, WI., after
we got off of work. We'd blast up 94, through Milwaukee. This was before any
bypass was in place.

One night, I must have been tired, as Don was driving so I could catch a
little sleep. He'd turned the dash lights off. When I awoke, I could tell
by the sound of the motor that we were really honkin'... as we passed
through the heart of Milwaukee. We were passing cars right and left.

"Hey Don... how fast are ya goin'?" I said, waking up rather quickly.

"I dunno... maybe 80?" he said. (Speed limit was 70 back then...)

I reached over, and we were doing well over 100.

Yikes.

I often wondered why there was a panel light on the Healey as well.

One night last year I was driving the BT7 down a dark rain soaked twisty
rural highway in the pouring rain (The drive there during the day was
great). When oncoming traffic appeared, the glare of their headlights off
the road was blinding. Driving around a curve I could not make out the
centre line at all and could barely see the shoulder. I think it was because

the Healey is so low.

I found that turning the dash lights off made a huge difference.
