A friend of mine, who is not on the list, is having OD problems on his BJ8.
Once ingaged, it will not disingage when the switch is switched to
normal---it has a mind of its' own and kicks out when it wants to.

He took it to a local garage that does lots of work on Healeys, Jags, etc
and they began to do an analysis. They focused on electrics. Finally they
said the throttle switch wasn't working properly. So, they pulled it and
cleaned the points in it. Then "electrically" it was working as
advertised. But--driving it home, it was operating the same as before.

When the car was at this garage earlier, they added a 90 wt ND oil to the
tranny. I have always used a 30 or 40 wt ND and mine works fine.

My guess is that his problem may be caused by the oil thickness or some
debris in the valve pressure opening--or a combo of both.

I've checked the archives and can't find a close answer there. Anyone want
to hazard a quess on what is happening?

BTW, I think the OD will work (in and out) even if the throttle switch is
disconnected--it just wont work as advertised---but will operate directly
from the dash switch. Am I off base?

TIA
tom
