  The difference is the additives.  I only put in either MT90 or non detergent
30 wt motor oil in my gearboxes.

  multiwieght and other standard motor oils are no good because they have
additives which suspend particles in the oil... to take them to the oil
filter.  Also, the anti-friction additives make the synchros not work real
well.

  I switched to MT90 and noticed the difference immediately.  Much easier
shifting.
