Alan,

The front brake cylinders were 1" up to November '54 whan at car 221014 this 
was changed to 7/8".

Interestingly, only a few cars later at car 221536 (not consecutive numbers) 
, Body 6478 the rear axle was now the C series axle with wider swept brake 
shoes and drums. The change of the front cylinders seems to me to be to 
adjust and equalize the front to rear braking ratio.

If this question is in regard to your '53 BN1 and you still have the 
original spiral bevel rear axle, your brake cylinders should be 1" all 
around, front and back.
