Hi Rich,
The red lamp normally lights when the generator output voltage is lower
than the battery voltage. As the generator voltage rises to match the
battery voltage, there is the same voltage on both sides of the lamp &
it goes out. In the rare case where the generator voltage goes
considerably higher than the battery voltage for some reason, the red
lamp will also light. Are you sure that the VR ground is good?
