A ballast resistor, if present, is fitted in series with the coil and 
has nothing to do with the electronic ignition as such. All you need to 
check is that the total resistance over the coil with or without a 
ballast resistor is conform the requirements of the electronic ignition 
system. It is usually 3 Ohms, but can vary.
