Hi Richard, I have done a couple of these, making LHD into RHD steering
boxes. You will have to find a method of stopping the top felt bush sliding
down the new tube. First tin the last inch of tube with soft solder using a
gas torch very lightly. Use Liberal amounts of solder flux in the housing.
Housing in a vice tube hole side up. Sit the tube on the hole and carefully
heat the outside of the housing until the tube slides in under it's own
weight. Then run a little extra solder around the joint to finish off.
Cheers, Larry Varley

I need some advise about replacing a damaged outer steering column tube. I
have some new 4130 tubing, .059" wall thickness - same size as original. It
appears to me that the tubing is soldered into the steering box. Has anyone
replaced this tube? Any tips or suggestions on making this a smooth fix will
be greatly appreciated. I have sweated many copper plumbing joints together
quite nicely, but this job is a bit more challenging.
