Funny story about side exit exhausts.
Back when I was a starving student I installed a side exit system on my ear=
ly LHD BJ8 both because I couldn't afford the full system and being a Phase=
 1 the back was so low that the cross resonators frequently dragged on the =
ground.
The system was very noisy (which at the time I thought was great) but resul=
ted in terrible headaches for the driver...me!!!
When I sold that car to buy my 100S I thought that although the"S" had simi=
lar side exit pipes because it was RHD that would be the passengers problem=
 =F0=9F=98=8A.
WRONG.=20

I sent this last night, but it didn=E2=80=99t make it. I=E2=80=99ve cut the=
 pictures=E2=80=99 size down. Again:-
=E2=80=9CWhen I decided to explore the idea of a side exhaust for my 3000 M=
kII BT7 I was appalled at the cost and mostly by the fact that one had to b=
uy, at least, a whole new silencer which came with side exit pipes.
It occurred to me that a better solution would be to swap the pair of long =
pipes that came out of the box and went to the rear for a pair that simply =
came out of the box and curved off to the side. ie to keep the box, downpip=
es etcetc and only swap the last bit of pipework.=20
Yes, I know that none of this is much use to BJ8 owners. At least, I presum=
e as much. Depends how vital the second, rear, box is.
Anyhow, I mentioned this before and a few people asked for more info....pic=
s and dimensions. I=E2=80=99d lost the precise blueprint that I drew up for=
 the stainless exhaust man and didn=E2=80=99t have any useful pics. Well, t=
he system is on the workshop floor now and I=E2=80=99ve taken a few pics an=
d got the tape measure out. Hard to be precise with curves, but you=E2=80=
=99ll get the idea.
It=E2=80=99s been on for about 5 years and seems to be doing OK. Done +/- 7=
,000 miles I=E2=80=99d guess.
See attached. (Being able to send attachments is such a great improvement. =
Being able to receive them is even better!)
=20
So, sorry to bother all of you....but I did say that I=E2=80=99d get back w=
ith the details. I just didn=E2=80=99t say that it might take a year or two=
!
