Neil, needles 'straight up' is a good idea, and an old one. The Brit road-racing mc writers were telling novices at least 60 or 70 years ago to set their rev-counters(tachometers) so that at whatever red-line they wanted to use, the needle was at 12 o'clock. In 'the heat of battle', just a glimpse would tell them wot's wot. This trick may have been thought up even years before that, for all I know. Needless to say, that's how I set up the tacho in #124.
