After that incident NHRA mandated drums be made of iron so they would blow at a lower speed or alloy steel so they wouldn't blow . If a sprag fails while the planetary gears are loaded the drum spins 3 or so times the engine rpm . At 25,000 rpm the surface speed of a 6"drum is 446 mph . |
