Eric,

On the button! There's virtually no such thing as a parts car here unless
it's been TOTALLED, ie run over by a semi or burnt to pieces! Severe rust or
damage in a car is usually fixed, very occasionally people use a Heritage
shell but that isn't common here. I mean, the Healey I bought in the USA
recently has some frame rust.. Now most people in the US would keep looking
and get a car with no rust.. Body and frame repairs are expensive yes. But
when I can buy said car for 1/3rd of the price I'd pay over here for a
similar car it makes it attractive. Also there is better choice in the US,
you are more likely to find a 'complete' original car, I mean its *very*
unlikely here that you'd find an untouched, unrestored AH100 lying around..
If it was cheap, it would be likely it would not be all there, or really
modified etc. I also think when you start a restoration it's far better to
have a car that 99% all there. In the US, if I lived there again, I'd keep
looking for a rust free car, but having costed replacement panels etc
(luckily we have local specialists here) I save big time even after the rust
repairs... So a project that may be unviable in the US is *sometimes* viable
down here..

One other thing that is not so attractive - If you import a car from the
East Coast of the US to Australia it will cost you at least $45000 (AUD)
(roll on/roll off) and more like $6000-$7000 in a container.. Not cheap at
all so there's that factor to consider. It is much cheaper to ship a Car
from California - for some reason, port charges etc it's much cheaper, maybe
as much as 1-2K. I guess the extra distance must influence this price too.

On houses Eric - I had to smile at the price you mentioned for a house in
Adelaide - 90-130 thousand? You are right that wouldn't even buy you a
garage here in Sydney! I mean $180K would buy you a house here, a small
house out in the western suburbs 45+ mins from the City. I would say the
average price of a house here would be at least $240,000 maybe more. (ex
girlfriend r/e agent!).

Yes, we are ripped off here in Sydney on lots of things like Cars,
Electonics, Houses etc. Of course lifestyle makes up for it, we have the
most beautiful City in the world, fantastic weather, world reknowned topless
beaches <G> and gorgeous blonde women frolicking all over the place. ;)
<VBG> lol! :))

Anyone in Paris want to house swap for the 2000 Olympics?!? Gotta get out of
this place!! Pandemonium!

Cheers,
Neil.
