Just an opinion here. The 1950/2 liter punch out is a risk. The stuff
I've read indicates that somewhere around 1 in 4 blocks won't take it due to
casting shifts and such. The other problem is that the blocks become
unstable at this bore ( some of them) and there have been problems with the
rings not seating, oil consumption, etc. This is one of those 'at your own
risk' things.
I really don't think the addition of 5 or 6 ci is going to by you
anything significant. Go with a 60 overbore, and at least you've got one
more step before you have to junk the block.
As to balancing, it is JMHO that all rotating components should be
balanced during a rebuild, if they haven't been before, or if any are
replaced. Balancing leads to smoothness and lack of vibration, which I
consider good things, if you are dealing with unknowns, as most of us are
when re-building engines this old, a minimal expenditure to have the
assembly balanced will pay off in the long run.
