Yep, done that.  Was trying to worm around a fender-bender (in my
lane).  There was tractor-trailer next to me.  He was crawling, my lane
was stuck.  I tooted, waved and pointed, he understood immediately, and
grinned.

I tucked under his trailer (only thing that didn't fit was the radio
antenna, so that stuck up along the side of the trailer), putted past
the accident, swung out and took off once we were past.  

The expression on the cop's face was priceless.

BTW:  I spent all evening working on the MGs (mine and my wife's).  Was
unable to reproduce the problem, but all the connectors in the ignition
circuit are nice and clean, and shielded from stray and potential
short-inducing bits.  This evening I'll trace the "signal line" to the
tachometer to make sure that isn't chafed and shorting.
